Web Seminar: TOC/TNb Analysis of Wastewater
Content and goals of the Web Seminar
Duration: ~60 min
Language: English
Speakers: Bernd Bletzinger, Product Manager TOC/TNb-Analyse, Analytik Jena
Millions of liters of domestic and industrial wastewater are produced daily. Before being discharged into surface waters, they are treated in company-owned or municipal plants. The maximum discharge values for various parameters are defined by national and municipal wastewater regulations. The monitoring of discharge limits calls for analytical methods that measure quickly, precisely and in compliance with standards.
Organic pollution of wastewater can be determined using different methods: one is the fully automatic determination of total organic carbon (TOC) and total bound nitrogen (TNb) using catalytic high-temperature combustion, the other is the significantly more laborious determination of chemical or biological oxygen demand (COD/BOD5).
In this web seminar, Analytik Jena presents the advantages of the fully automated determination of TOC and TNb which works without expensive reagent kits and hazardous chemicals and allows for simple conversion of TOC results into COD/BOD5 values. In addition, investment and total operating costs are considered. In a break-even calculation, we will demonstrate short amortization times for TOC analyzers, as well as annual cost savings of around EUR 17,000 and significant savings in personnel costs.
With TOC/TNb analyzers multi N/C 2300 and multi N/C 3300, Analytik Jena is presenting two devices that enable excellent particle handling thanks to sophisticated injection techniques. As required by norms, particles of the sample are completely transferred and measured - without any sample carry-over, without clogging of the injection system and without time-consuming sample dilution. An intelligent operating and maintenance concept significantly reduces staff hours and simplifies laboratory processes.
This web seminar will highlight:
- TOC vs. COD: Quality of analysis results, use of chemicals, cost comparison and potential for annual cost savings by switching from COD to TOC
- What to keep in mind for TOC/TNb analysis of particle-rich wastewater samples
- Fully automated determination of TOC and conversion to COD/BOD5
